About Tulipa gesneriana L.

Tulipa gesneriana L. is a bulbous herbaceous plant. Its vegetative features include ovate-lanceolate leaves, and its bulbs produce lateral offsets. Its generative features include erect, broadly campanulate flowers with glabrous, obtuse tepals. Each flower has six stamens and three carpels. In terms of ecology, the flowers of this species are pollinated by Halictus bees. Contact with the flower and bulb can cause dermatitis triggered by the allergen tuliposide A, even though eating the bulbs typically causes only minor ill effects. Dried, pulverized bulbs of this species may be added to cereals or flour for consumption.
