About Tuberaria lignosa (Sweet) Samp.

Tuberaria lignosa (Sweet) Samp. is a perennial herb that is often woody at its base. It grows up to 57 centimetres (22 inches) tall and branches freely. Its leaves are simple, between 3โ€“10 cm (1โ€“4 in) long and 0.9โ€“3.4 cm (0.4โ€“1.3 in) wide. It has a lax inflorescence, and each individual flower is 2โ€“3 cm (0.8โ€“1.2 in) in diameter. This species is distributed across the western Mediterranean Basin, occurring in parts of Italy, France, mainland Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and the Canary Islands. It has been studied for potential use in cancer treatment medical research. An aqueous extract from Tuberaria lignosa was found to inhibit cell growth, alter cell cycle profile, and induce apoptosis in NCI-H460 tumour cells.
