About Trithemis pluvialis Förster, 1906

Commonly known as the russet dropwing, Trithemis pluvialis Förster, 1906 is a medium-sized dragonfly. Adults have bright orange to reddish body coloration, with small orange patches located on the hindwings. Its abdomen bears small black dorsal stripes, and its eyes are brownish orange. Females are stouter in build and more mottled in patterning than males. This species often perches conspicuously on reeds or sedges. It has been recorded in Angola, Cameroon, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The russet dropwing prefers swift rocky rivers with extensive reed margins that are located in savanna habitats.
