About Triteleia lugens Greene

Triteleia lugens Greene is a perennial wildflower that grows from a corm. It produces 2 to 3 basal leaves, which can reach up to 40 centimeters long and 1 centimeter wide. The inflorescence grows from a smooth, erect stem that reaches up to 40 centimeters in height. It forms an umbel-like cluster made up of many funnel-shaped flowers, each growing from a short pedicel. Each flower has six yellow tepals, each less than 1 centimeter long. Populations of this species in northern regions have paler yellow flowers, while plants growing in southern areas have deeper golden yellow flowers. The tepals have dark visible veins. There are six stamens, which bear anthers that are either yellow or blue.
