About Tripleurospermum maritimum (L.) W.D.J.Koch
Tripleurospermum maritimum is a herbaceous plant that grows as either a biennial or a short-lived perennial. Most individuals are typically procumbent, growing along the ground before turning upwards toward their tips, but some may grow completely straight upward. Mature plants most often reach 10 to 80 centimeters (4 to 31 inches) in length. Its leaves are divided, with narrow ending segments that have a fleshy, succulent texture. Its daisy-like flowering heads measure 3 to 5.5 cm (1.2 to 2.2 in) across. Its seeds are achenes, 1.8 to 3.5 mm long, and range in color from pale to blackish-brown. According to Plants of the World Online, this species is native to Europe, Greenland, and the Azores. It is present natively in all Scandinavian countries and the British Isles. South of the Baltic Sea, it is native to the Baltic States, Northwest European Russia near St. Petersburg, Poland, and Germany. To the west, it is also native to France, Spain, and Portugal. It usually grows in open habitats close to the ocean, specifically on the upper sections of seashores. It also grows in disused areas and areas disturbed by human activity.
