About Tripidium ravennae (L.) H.Scholz

Tripidium ravennae (L.) H.Scholz is a grass species belonging to the genus Tripidium. It has multiple synonyms, including the widely used Saccharum ravennae, and goes by the common names ravennagrass and elephant grass. This species is native to Southern Europe, Western Asia, and South Asia. It has been introduced to North America, where it is sometimes classified as an invasive, troublesome noxious weed. Ravennagrass is a large, aggressive grass that is sold in nurseries for two main purposes: as an ornamental garden grass, and for stabilizing soil to prevent erosion. Nurseries typically market it under the name "hardy pampas grass."
