About Trifolium bifidum A.Gray

Trifolium bifidum is a species of clover that goes by the common names notchleaf clover and pinole clover. It is native to the western United States, ranging from Washington south to California, and grows in many different habitat types there. It is an annual herb that can grow either erect or spreading, and has a texture that ranges from lightly hairy to hairless. Its leaves are composed of oval leaflets that measure 1 to 2 centimeters long, and usually have notches at their tips. Its inflorescence is a rounded head of flowers that is up to 1.5 centimeters wide. Each flower has a calyx made of sepals that narrow into bristles covered with long hairs. The flower corolla is yellowish, pinkish, or purple, and is less than one centimeter long. As the flowers age, they droop within the flower head.
