About Trifolium andersonii A.Gray
Trifolium andersonii A.Gray is a perennial stemless herb that grows in a tuft or low cushion. Its leaves are silvery-gray, covered in long hair or wool, and each leaf holds 3 to 7 leaflets that can grow up to 2 centimeters (0.8 inches) long. The plant’s inflorescence is a flower head that ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters (0.6 to 1 inch) wide. Every flower has a sepal calyx with narrow, densely hairy lobes, and the flower corolla inside the calyx is pinkish purple or bicolored. Authors generally recognize various subtaxa of this species, classified as either varieties or subspecies. This plant grows in forests, mountain meadows, and talus. It has been recorded as the dominant species in dry areas of the alpine grassland steppe in the White Mountains of California.
