About Tridentopsis mutica (Torr.) P.M.Peterson
Tridentopsis mutica (Torr.) P.M.Peterson is a perennial grass that grows in thick tufts, with a knotted base and rhizome. It reaches a maximum height between 50 and 80 centimetres, or 20 to 31 inches. Its panicle has short branches that press closely against one another, resulting in a narrow inflorescence. Its florets are typically purple. This species uses C4 carbon fixation for its energy metabolism. It is native to northern Mexico, as well as the southwestern and south-central United States. It grows in a variety of habitat types, including plateaus, deserts, woodlands, sagebrush areas, and plains, along with other areas that have dry sandy and clay soils.
