About Trichostema dichotomum L.

Trichostema dichotomum L. is an annual herbaceous forb. It has opposite, simple leaves that are covered in small hairs. It also has square, erect, hairy stems that carry glandular hairs which release a fragrance when disturbed. Its flowers are blue, and bloom from late summer through mid autumn. Each individual flower only blooms for half a day: it opens in the morning, and drops its petals and stamens by the afternoon. This species germinates early in the summer, and grows in sunny, moderately dry, sandy habitats. These habitats include sandhills, open woodlands, glades, and disturbed areas. It is an important nectar source for bees, specifically including Caupolicana electa and Dialictus placidensis.
