About Trichostema bridgesii-orzellii K.S.McClell., 2023

Trichostema bridgesii-orzellii K.S.McClell., 2023 is an aromatic perennial herb in the Lamiaceae family, with opposite leaves and the bilaterally symmetrical flowers that are characteristic of the family. Like other species in the genus Trichostema, its flowers grow in axillary clusters and are adapted for insect pollination, specifically pollination by bees. This species is endemic to central and south-central Florida, with confirmed recorded occurrences in Highlands, Osceola, and Polk counties, most located on the Lake Wales Ridge. It grows in open, sandy habitats, including Florida scrub and sandhill communities, where periodic fire is important for maintaining the suitable habitat structure it requires.
