About Tricholoma virgatum (Fr.) P.Kumm.

The cap of Tricholoma virgatum is grayish and conical, marked with radiating streaks of fibres. It can reach up to 10 centimetres (4 inches) across. The stipe is lighter in colour and grows up to 15 centimetres long. This mushroom has a mild to mealy odour and an acrid taste. It produces a white spore print. A similar species within the Tricholoma genus is T. sciodes. Tricholoma virgatum occurs in deciduous and coniferous forests in China, Europe, and North America. Recent studies have found that methanol-submerged extract of this mushroom is effective for disease prevention, because the extract has antibacterial properties.
