About Tricholoma inamoenum (Fr.) Gillet
Tricholoma inamoenum (Fr.) Gillet is a mushroom species belonging to the agaric genus Tricholoma. It is distributed across the Northern Hemisphere, where it grows particularly under conifer trees. This mushroom is poisonous, and it is distinguished by an unpleasant odor that resembles coal gas or tar. Analysis of volatile compounds released from fresh sporocarps, conducted using solid phase microextraction (SPME), identified 1-octen-3-ol and indole as the compounds responsible for this mushroom’s coal tar odor. Tricholoma platyphyllum from Seattle may be the same species as Tricholoma inamoenum. A similar related species is Tricholoma sulphureum, which grows under both conifers and hardwoods.
