About Tricholoma griseoviolaceum Shanks

Tricholoma griseoviolaceum Shanks is a mushroom species belonging to the agaric genus Tricholoma. It was formally described as a new species to science in 1996. Its cap measures between 4 to 10 centimeters (1.6 to 3.9 inches) in diameter, and is purplish gray with a darker central region, fading to brownish gray as the mushroom ages. The stalk grows 6 to 12 centimeters (2.4 to 4.7 inches) long, and 1 to 2 centimeters wide. The flesh of the mushroom is whitish gray, and its spores are white in color. Both the odor and taste of this mushroom are similar to cucumbers. It is currently unknown whether this species is edible or not. Closely related similar species include Tricholoma atroviolaceum, Tricholoma portentosum, and Tricholoma virgatum.
