About Trichoferus campestris (Faldermann, 1835)
Trichoferus campestris, commonly known as the velvet longhorned beetle, is a species of long-horned beetle that belongs to the family Cerambycidae. This species is native to eastern Asia, where its native range includes China, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Mongolia, and eastern Russia. Records of individual beetles or established populations of Trichoferus campestris also exist in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Western Russia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. These populations outside of the species' native eastern Asian range are most likely the result of ancient introductions from Asiatic Russia, though natural range expansion could also explain their presence here. In North America, the first individual of this species was detected in 1997 in New Jersey, USA. Since that first detection, Trichoferus campestris has become well established across both the USA and Canada. The species has also been introduced to a number of European countries, including Germany, Austria, Belgium, Belarus, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, the UK, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Czechia, and Ukraine.
