About Triadenum virginicum (L.) Raf.
Triadenum virginicum (L.) Raf. is also known by the synonym Hypericum virginicum. This species is a small herbaceous plant that reaches a maximum height of 70 cm (28 in). It produces opposite, sessile leaves that sometimes clasp the stem. Its flowers reach up to 15 mm (0.6 in) in diameter, and each flower has 5 petals that are either pink or white. It blooms from summer through early fall, and grows in wet habitats including bogs, wet meadows, fens, swamps, and along lakeshores. It can be told apart from the closely related Hypericum fraseri by its longer, acute sepals and longer styles. The seeds of this species are very similar in appearance to the seeds of the extinct paleospecies Hypericum tertiaerum.
