About Tramea stenoloba (Watson, 1962)

Tramea stenoloba is a medium-to-large dragonfly species with a wingspan of 100 millimeters and a total body length of 55 millimeters. This dragonfly has an almost uniformly red synthorax, with prominent dark patches located at the base of its hindwings. Its abdomen is red, with the final two segments being black. Females of the species are a duller brown shade. Tramea stenoloba is very similar in appearance to Tramea loewii, and the two species can be distinguished by differences in synthorax coloration and genital dimensions. This species lives in riverine lagoons, lakes, and ponds. Within Australia, it is widespread across most of the continent, with the exception of the far south-east. It is thought to be less common than Tramea loewii, as fewer records of Tramea stenoloba are listed in the Atlas of Living Australia.
