About Torreyochloa pallida (Torr.) Church
Torreyochloa pallida (Torr.) Church is a species of grass that goes by the common names pale false mannagrass and weak manna grass. It is native to North America, occurring particularly on the continent's east and west sides. It grows in wet habitats, including rivers, lakesides, bogs, and swamps. This is a rhizomatous perennial grass that produces thick stems which range from erect to decumbent, and sometimes grow in matted clumps; the maximum stem length can easily exceed one meter. Its inflorescence is a branching panicle, reaching up to 25 centimeters long and 12 centimeters wide, that holds compressed spikelets, each containing up to 8 florets. Three varieties of this grass are recognized, which are distinguished from each other by their appearance and distribution.
