Native Distribution
It is native to the Western Indian Ocean, and also occurs across the Indo-Pacific region, ranging from the Persian Gulf to the Seychelles.
Mediterranean Introduction
It was first recorded in the Mediterranean Sea in 1987, after most likely migrating into the sea through the Suez Canal, and its range is currently expanding westward there.
