It is native to southern Europe, including the Mediterranean region, specifically found in Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and the British territory of Gibraltar. Outside its native range, it is well-known as an introduced species and a common weed in many other areas, such as California and New South Wales.
