About Tliltocatl albopilosus (Valerio, 1980)

The curlyhair tarantula, Tliltocatl albopilosus, has a plump body covered in dark brown to black bristles. Bristles are light-colored when the tarantula is a juvenile, and darken as it ages. Longer gold bristles cover the entire body, and are particularly dense on the hind legs, giving the spider a distinctive golden-bronze sheen. In captivity, both males and females can reach a leg span of just over 6 inches (15 cm). Males live much shorter lives in captivity, reaching only around 5 years of age, while females are reported to live up to 20 years. Adult males also typically have a lighter bronze overall coloration than females. Tliltocatl albopilosus is native to Costa Rica. This is a burrowing species of tarantula that lives in tropical scrubland. It can most often be found around the bases of large trees, near rivers, or in patches of cleared rain forest.
