About Titanacris albipes (De Geer, 1773)

Titanacris albipes, commonly known as the purple-winged grasshopper, is a large South American grasshopper species belonging to the family Romaleidae. This species inhabits the canopy of the Amazon rainforest, and its range also extends into gallery forest habitats within the Cerrado region. It is frequently attracted to artificial light at night. Adult males typically measure 6.5โ€“8 cm (2.6โ€“3.1 in) in length, while adult females measure 9.5โ€“11 cm (3.7โ€“4.3 in) in length. Both sexes are primarily deep green, and most of their wings are uniformly purple. This purple wing color is conspicuous when the grasshopper is in flight, and distinguishes T. albipes from all other species in the genus Titanacris, which have extensive red, orange-red, or pink coloration on their wings.
