About Tillandsia erubescens Schltdl.

Tillandsia erubescens Schltdl. is an epiphytic plant species belonging to the genus Tillandsia. This species is endemic to Mexico, and occurs across much of the country, ranging from Chihuahua to Oaxaca. Three varieties of this species are currently recognized. Tillandsia erubescens var. arroyoensis W.Weber & Ehlers is found in northeastern Mexico. Tillandsia erubescens var. erubescens is distributed across much of Mexico. Tillandsia erubescens var. patentibracteata W.Weber & Ehlers is native to Sinaloa. According to recorded use, the Pima people of Mexico occasionally eat the flowers of T. erubescens and Tillandsia recurvata, because the flowers have a high sugar content.
