This species commonly grows in cerrado, campinas, and restingas, in humid, sandy soil.
Pará Restinga Habitat Observations
A study of Melastomataceae in Brazilian restingas of Pará found T. aspera growing in herbaceous marsh, dune gap fields, and open shrubby fields.
