About Thysanotus baueri R.Br.
Thysanotus baueri is an upright perennial herb. Its simple or branched stems grow from a narrow, tuberous bulb that measures 8 to 30 cm (3.1 to 11.8 inches) long. This species produces 3 to 5 linear leaves, each 5–15 cm (2.0–5.9 in) long; the leaves are arranged around the base of the plant and are more or less cylindrical in shape. Its flowers grow at the end of stems, and have three larger and three smaller purplish petals. The larger petals have a fringe along their margins, and each flower has six stamens. Flowering takes place from spring to early summer. The fruit is a rounded capsule around 4 mm (0.16 in) in diameter, which holds numerous black seeds. Commonly called the Mallee fringe-lily, this species grows in woodlands and grasslands on sandy soils, and is found in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
