About Thymus praecox Opiz

Thymus praecox Opiz is a species of thyme. Its common name is mother of thyme, but the names "creeping thyme" and "wild thyme" may also be used for this species in areas where Thymus serpyllum, another thyme that also shares these common names, does not occur. Thymus praecox is native to central, southern, and western Europe. This species is cultivated as an ornamental plant. It is grown as an evergreen groundcover in both gardens and pots. When kept at a shorter height, it is planted between paving stones in patios and walkways. Once established, it is tolerant of drought. Both Thymus praecox and Thymus serpyllum have escaped cultivation in North America, and Thymus praecox is classified as a weed or invasive species in some habitats within the United States.
