About Thymus pannonicus All.
Thymus pannonicus All., commonly called Hungarian thyme or Eurasian thyme, is a perennial herbaceous plant. It is distributed across central and eastern Europe and Russia, where it grows in open dry meadows, grasslands, and on exposed rocks. In Serbia, this species forms part of multiple xerothermous grass communities that grow on warm, dry silicate terrains located above 160 m (520 ft) in elevation. These communities occur mostly on plains or gentle mild slopes, growing on acidic soils that formed from crystalline albite-muscovite schist and gneiss-like granite. In southern Banat, a region within Serbia, the dried herb of this species is used to prepare tasty, refreshing herbal tea, thanks to its unique and pleasant lemon-like scent. Fresh leaves of Thymus pannonicus All. are added as flavoring to homemade jams, candies, and similar confections. Traditional uses of the plant also include treating coughs and other respiratory complaints, as well as certain gastrointestinal disorders.
