About Thymus caespititius Brot.
Thymus caespititius Brot. is a dwarf, aromatic, mat-forming groundcover shrub. It is native to oceanic regions of the Iberian Peninsula, specifically northwest Portugal and northwest Spain, as well as the Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira. Its leaves are narrow, spatula-shaped, and smooth, reaching up to 6 mm (0.24 in) long, with edges fringed by tiny hairs. Rose, lilac, or white flowers grow in small, flattened, mat-hugging heads, blooming from late spring to summer. Thymus caespititius is grown as an ornamental plant, and is hardy down to USDA Zone 7. The cultivar Thymus caespititius 'Aureus' produces narrow, light gold leaves.
