About Thyas honesta Hübner, 1806
Thyas honesta Hübner, 1806 has a wingspan ranging from approximately 84 to 104 mm. The head and thorax are reddish chestnut in color, and the third segment of its palpi is black. Its abdomen is crimson. The forewings are reddish chestnut, lightly speckled with dark scales. Faint traces of a sinuous antemedial line are present, and this line holds three small dark specks. The reniform spot is greyish, with its lower portion more or less entirely filled with black pigment. There is a curved postmedial series of white specks, followed by an indistinct band that angles at vein 6. This band is met by a dark streak extending from the wing's apex. A row of specks runs along the outer margin of the forewing. The hindwings are crimson, with a black medial patch located close to the sub-margin. The larvae have an ophiusine shape, with an apple-green body finely marked by longitudinal double white lines that have purple centers. The dorsolateral pair of conical tubercles are yellowish with red patches. The larvae feed on plant species from the genera Careya, Barringtonia, and Planchonia.
