About Thunbergia natalensis Hook.

Thunbergia natalensis Hook. is a species of flowering plant in the Acanthaceae family, native to several regions of mainland Africa. Its native range includes the Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa, as well as Eswatini, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe. It grows naturally in forest margins, bushy areas, and grassland. It is normally evergreen, but will lose its leaves and go dormant during dry or cold winters. Common names for this species are dwarf thunbergia, Natal blue thunbergia, and Natal blue-bell. This attractive plant is cultivated in temperate regions for its large quantities of pale blue, trumpet-shaped summer blooms, which grow against a backdrop of dark, hairy leaves. It reaches an approximate height of 1 metre (3.3 feet), and grows best displayed as groundcover in a partially shaded location.
