About Thunbergia atriplicifolia E.Mey.
Thunbergia atriplicifolia E.Mey. is a perennial shrublet that ranges from sparsely to densely covered in fine hairs, reaching up to 4 centimeters in height. It re-sprouts from a woody base. Its leaves can be stalkless, or have leaf stalks up to 4 millimeters long. The leaf blade is narrow to broadly ovate, with an apex that ranges from acute to obtuse and a base that ranges from cordate to cuneate, measuring around 2.5–6.0 cm long by 1.5–3.5 cm wide. Leaf margins are either entire or toothed, usually bearing only two teeth at the base. The flowers are trumpet-shaped, pale creamy in color with a yellow throat, and measure 4–5 cm in diameter. The seeds are reddish-brown or greyish-brown, covered in evenly arranged small hairs, and measure 4–6 mm in diameter. This species occurs across eastern South Africa. Ecologically, Thunbergia atriplicifolia is a subordinate species in grassland habitats, and grows best in both loam and sandy soil.
