About Thumatha senex (Hübner, 1804)

Scientific name: Thumatha senex (Hübner, 1804)

Technical description and variation This moth has a wingspan of 15–20 mm. It looks similar to Nudaria mundana, though Nudaria mundana differs by having less rounded forewings, a more transparent appearance, and less obvious spots. On Thumatha senex, the central spot at the apex of the cell is distinct. There is a larger, shadowy spot at the middle of the costa, and a row of spots before the marginal area of the forewing that are especially distinct in the costal region. A second curved row of spots marks the boundary of the basal third of the forewing.
