About Tholymis tillarga (Fabricius, 1798)

Tholymis tillarga is a medium-sized dragonfly. Males have reddish eyes, a yellowish-red thorax, and a coral red abdomen. Their wings are transparent, but the base of each hindwing has a golden-brown patch that is bordered by a cloudy-white patch. Females are brown and do not have the cloudy-white patch on their hindwings. This species is migratory, and maintains permanent populations in humid tropical regions. It breeds in standing water bodies, and prefers weedy ponds, swamps, and lakes. Individuals are active at dusk, dawn, and during cloudy days.
