About Thessalia leanira (Felder, 1860)

Male Thessalia leanira have a wingspan of 33 to 35 millimeters, while female wingspan ranges from 36 to 40 millimeters. For both sexes, the upper wing surface has a dark brown ground color, which appears as small macules. The forewings bear red scales at their base and apex. Both sexes have red marginal lunules on the forewings, though these markings are most clearly seen in males. The underside of the forewings has an orange-red ground color, along with both pale and dark markings. On the underside of the hindwings, sub-basal fascia extend across the costa, cell, and inner margin. Adult subspecies of Chlosyne leanira have a range of different flower preferences.
