About Theretra nessus Drury, 1773

Theretra nessus Drury, 1773 has a wingspan of 90–130 mm. The head, thorax, and a stripe running down the center of the abdomen are green suffused with ferrugineous. The thorax bears a lateral grey stripe, and the sides of the abdomen are golden yellow. The forewings are olive brown, with a black and white patch at the base on the inner margin. A black dot is present at the end of the cell. A postmedial, waved, oblique line is met at the inner margin by three straight oblique lines extending from the apex. The hindwings are black brown; the anal angle is ochreous, and this colour extends toward the apex as a submarginal band. The ventral side is suffused with reddish ochreous. This species is distributed across Sri Lanka, India (including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands), Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, southern China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, northern Australia, and New Caledonia. It is a recent immigrant in Oahu.
