About Theretra celata Butler, 1877

Theretra celata (Butler, 1877) is a moth species belonging to the family Sphingidae. Its confirmed distribution ranges from the Moluccas eastward to Vanuatu, and southward to Australia. This species is frequently classified as a subspecies of Theretra clotho. For male individuals, forewing length measures between 35 and 42 millimeters, while for female individuals forewing length measures between 41.5 and 48.9 millimeters. It closely resembles Theretra clotho clotho, but its overall body and wing tone is typically more yellowish. The blackish-brown area on the underside of its forewing is generally less extensive than the same area on Theretra clotho clotho. On the upperside of its hindwing, there is a buff-colored median band that is wider than the corresponding band on Theretra clotho clotho, and extends more or less all the way to the costal margin.
