About Theretra cajus Cramer, 1777

Theretra cajus is a moth species that belongs to the family Sphingidae. This species has been recorded from South Africa and Zimbabwe. On the upper side of its abdomen, two prominent white longitudinal lines are visible. These lines are fused at the front and back margins of each abdominal segment, creating a chain-like pattern. On the upper side of its forewing, a dark brown band runs between the first to third postmedian lines and the fifth postmedian line. This dark brown band contrasts very strongly with the nearly white band that lies between them. A clear discal line is present, and a second line sits closer to the body than this distinct discal line, though this second line is usually obscured by the brown color of the discal area. In most specimens, the submarginal line is distinct, and the marginal band has grey shading.
