About Theraphosa stirmi Rudloff & Weinmann, 2010
Theraphosa stirmi is a heavy-bodied tarantula species first formally described by Rudloff & Weinmann in 2010. The carapace of this spider can reach up to 40 mm (1.6 in) in length and 37 mm (1.5 in) in width. In one measured male, the longest leg (the fourth leg) reached a total length of 110 mm (4.3 in). Its body coloration ranges from rusty brown and rich burgundy-brown to dark brown. Reddish setae cover its legs and abdomen, and distinct white lines run along its legs. Adult males of this species have no mating spurs and no tibial apophyses. Young spiderlings and juvenile individuals have pink tarsi on their front two pairs of legs. This species is native to Guyana and Brazil, located in tropical South America.
