About Thelocactus buekii (E.Klein bis) Britton & Rose
Thelocactus buekii (E.Klein bis) Britton & Rose is a solitary, globular cactus with depressed stems. Its body ranges from dark reddish to dull green, growing 5 to 22 centimeters high and 11 to 16 centimeters in diameter. This species has conical tubercles that measure 1.5 to 2.5 cm long. Its areoles are woolly when young, and bear 3 to 7 central spines that are gray to red and up to 2 centimeters long. It also produces 7 to 12 radial spines. Its flowers are pink and reach 8 cm in diameter. This cactus is native to limestone hills in the Chihuahuan Desert, between Dr Arroyo and Galeana in Nuevo León, Mexico, where it grows at elevations between 800 and 1000 meters.
