About Thecla spurina Hewitson, 1867

Rekoa marius, commonly known as the Marius hairstreak, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Lycaenidae. This species ranges from Paraguay northward to Sonora, Mexico. Occasional stray individuals can be found as far north as southern Texas, where the species was once considered rare. It is the only Rekoa species that occurs in Arizona. Its habitat consists of disturbed tropical areas. The wingspan of Rekoa marius measures 22 to 32 mm. The upperside of male individuals is dark iridescent blue, while females are gray. The hindwing has an orange eyespot near the tail. In Mexico, adult Rekoa marius are likely active on the wing year round. In southern Texas, adults have a single flight period from September to December. Adults feed on flower nectar, and the larvae feed on a variety of plants including legumes and malpighias.
