About Thamnophis ordinoides (Baird & Girard, 1852)
The northwestern garter snake, scientifically known as Thamnophis ordinoides (Baird & Girard, 1852), is a small snake species. Adult individuals reach an average total length (including the tail) of 13 to 38 inches, which equals 33 to 97 cm. This species is counted among the most geographically variable snake species in the world. In terms of its geographic range, T. ordinoides occurs in the US states of California, Oregon, and Washington, and in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Northwestern garter snakes require some sunlight to survive, so they are most commonly found along the edges of meadows that are surrounded by forest. When outdoor temperatures become too hot, they can also be found sheltering under stumps.
