About Teucrium scorodonia L.
Teucrium scorodonia L. grows to an average height of 30 to 60 centimetres (12 to 24 inches). It is a hairy herbaceous perennial plant with erect, branched stems. Its leaves have petioles, bear irregular teeth, are shaped from triangular-ovate to oblong, and have a lightly wrinkled texture. The inflorescence is made up of one-sided pale green or yellowish flowers, with all flowers facing the same direction. These flowers hold four stamens that have reddish or violet filaments. The flowers grow from the axils of the upper leaves; they are hermaphrodite, covered in dense short hairs, bilabiate, and lack an upper lip, which is characteristic of all Teucrium species. Flowering occurs from June through August. This species is mainly pollinated by Hymenoptera. Teucrium scorodonia prefers sandy soils in woodland and acid heaths, and grows at altitudes ranging from 0 to 1,500 metres (0 to 4,921 feet) above sea level.
