About Terinos atlita Fabricius, 1787
Terinos atlita is a butterfly species belonging to the Nymphalidae family. It was first described by Johann Christian Fabricius in 1787, and is native to the Indomalayan realm. Compared to Terinos clarissa, the underside of T. atlita is not as brightly red-brown. The submarginal band that crosses its wings is reddish or yellow, and is less strongly undulate. Additionally, the hindwings of T. atlita lack the white streak that is enclosed between the nervules distal to the cell on T. clarissa. In female T. atlita, the forewings have a whitish patch at the anal angle; in contrast, this same whitish patch appears on the hindwings of female T. clarissa. All forms of T. atlita are more similar to T. clarissa militum than other forms in wing shape. This species is not rare in wooded lowlands of northeastern Sumatra, and several specimens from the Bovenlanden region above Padang in western Sumatra are held in the Fruhstorfer collection.
