About Temnora pylas Cramer, 1779

Temnora pylas Cramer, 1779 is a moth species belonging to the family Sphingidae. It has been recorded in South Africa and Zimbabwe. The upper surface of its forewing has a pale brown base color, marked with darker brown transverse bands and other dark markings. The basal band on the forewing upperside is dark brown. The subbasal band is made up of two dark brown lines that are separated by the pale brown ground color of the wing. The antemedian band is dark brown, and contains a small area of the pale ground color in its central section. This band curves evenly from the costa to the inner margin of the forewing. The postmedian band is solid dark brown. The underside of the forewing is uniformly colored orange-brown. The upper surface of the hindwing is yellow near its base. It has an orange postmedian band and a pale brown marginal band, with very diffuse borders between these color areas. The width of the orange postmedian band is twice the width of the pale brown marginal band. There is a dark shade along the outer margin of the hindwing. The underside of the hindwing is uniformly colored orange-brown. The inner edge of the hindwing is yellowish close to the wing base.
