The white-cheeked turaco, currently scientifically named Tauraco leucotis (Ruppell, 1835), is also referenced under the scientific name Menelikornis leucotis. It is a bird species belonging to the family Musophagidae.
Size and Weight
It is a mid-sized bird, measuring approximately 43 cm (17 in) in total length, with a 19 cm (7.5 in) tail, and weighing between 200–315 g (7.1–11.1 oz).
Captivity Status
This species is the most frequently raised turaco in captive settings.
Geographic Range
It is native to Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Sudan.
Habitat
In these countries, it inhabits Podocarpus and juniper forests located in highland regions.
