About Taraxia ovata (Nutt.) Small

Taraxia ovata (Nutt.) Small is a fleshy, taprooted perennial plant that often grows in clay soil. It produces a wide rosette of long, alternate leaves that are either feather-shaped or oval, and sometimes have wavy edges. Its flowers grow at the top of thin, erect stems. The flowers are usually yellow, occasionally white, or yellow with white spots near the base of their four spoon-shaped petals. The stamens of this species are shorter than those of plants in the genus Camissonia. This species occurs in the North Coast Range of California, at elevations up to 1600 feet, including Sonoma and Marin County, and ranges south to San Luis Obispo County.
