About Tangara seledon (P.L.S.Müller, 1776)
The green-headed tanager, scientifically known as Tangara seledon, is a brightly colored small bird found in the Atlantic forest of south-eastern Brazil, far eastern Paraguay, and only the Misiones region of far north-eastern Argentina. Like other species in the genus Tangara, it is small and colorful, with an average length of 13.5 centimeters (5.3 inches) and an average mass of 18 grams (0.6 ounces). This tanager has a greenish or bluish head, a black back, and a contrasting orange or red rump. Females and juvenile green-headed tanagers have similar patterning, but their coloration is duller than that of adult males. While it primarily lives in humid forests, it is also common in orchards and parks. It moves through the tree canopy, and despite its bright blue-green coloration, it blends well into foliage and remains inconspicuous.
