About Tangara nigroviridis (Lafresnaye, 1843)
This small songbird has the scientific name Tangara nigroviridis (Lafresnaye, 1843), and is commonly called the beryl-spangled tanager. It measures 13 cm (5.1 in) in total length. Most of its plumage is turquoise, marked heavily with black spots and scaled patterns. Its breast and belly are mainly black, marked with opalescent greenish spots. This species inhabits humid montane forest and second growth. It is found on the eastern slopes of the Andes, ranging from Venezuela through Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru to Bolivia. In Ecuador, it occurs at elevations between 700–2,500 m (2,300–8,200 ft); in Peru, its elevational range is somewhat higher, at 1,500–2,900 m (4,900–9,500 ft).
