About Tangara fastuosa (R.Lesson, 1831)
The seven-colored tanager, with the scientific name Tangara fastuosa, is a vulnerable bird species belonging to the family Thraupidae. It is endemic to forest habitats in northeastern Brazil. It bears a resemblance to the green-headed tanager, which is an overall greener bird; confusingly, the green-headed tanager is also called the seven-coloured tanager (saíra-sete-cores) in Portuguese. This species measures 13.5 cm in length, and gets its name from its striking, multi-colored feathering. The specific color distribution across its body is: turquoise-green on the head, chin and mantle; black on the lores, area around the bill, back, shoulders, and throat; bright blue on the breast and edge of the tail; ultramarine blue on the belly; paler turquoise-blue on the wing-coverts; dark blue on the edging of the wing feathers; and orange on the edging of the tertials, rump and lower back.
