About Tamaulipa azurea (DC.) R.M.King & H.Rob.
Tamaulipa is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the tribe Eupatorieae in the family Asteraceae. This genus is monotypic, meaning it contains only one single species: Tamaulipa azurea, which is commonly called blue boneset. The generic name Tamaulipa references the state of Tamaulipas located in northeastern Mexico, as well as the Tamaulipan mezquital scrubland that covers most of the state. Tamaulipa azurea is also found in the extreme southern portion of Texas, specifically in Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy Counties, United States. This plant grows as a climbing shrub or non-twining vine, reaching roughly 2 to 3 meters (6.6 to 9.8 feet) in height, and bears bluish or blue-lavender flowers. Tamaulipa azurea has medicinal value and can be used to make beverages.
